Three Things Parents Need to Know About the 2014-15 Common App

The 2014-15 Common Application will launch at 8:00 a.m. ET on August 1. Supporting a child in the college application process can be exciting and daunting at the same time. Here are three key pieces of information to help your family through this journey.

1. You need to know what your child needs to know. Fortunately, we’ve made a list. Check it out.

2. We’re ready for your child, even if your child isn’t ready for us. There are as many ways to approach the college application process as there are students applying to college. We’re not advocates of procrastination, but we’re huge fans of a thoughtful approach. For some students, that means starting on August 1. For others, it means taking a little extra time to gather their thoughts. Working together as a family to find the right balance will help keep the year sane.

3. Be open to new possibilities. Perhaps the greatest benefit of using the Common Application is the ability to discover something new. We have over 500 Member Institutions, each with a distinct mission and set of opportunities. Take some time with your child to explore what they have to offer. You will find some very pleasant surprises.
