Did you know that of the nearly 800,000 students who used the Common Application this year, over 28% are first-generation students? This info graphic represents applicant demographics and Common Application submission trends between August 2013 and February 2014.
For over 35 years, The Common Application has been committed to promoting equity, access, and integrity in the college application process. Our member colleges believe that holistic admission is the single best way to identify students who have the skills, qualities, and disposition to be successful on their campuses. The online application is deliberately designed to elicit the kind of information that is central to holistic evaluation of all applicants. Through the Common App forms, writing supplements, and recommendations, colleges gain insight into a student’s family, school, and community. They learn about the contributions the student has made to its school and society. They hear accounts of academic and intellectual engagement as reported by classroom teachers.
